Daily fire prevention tips

2025-12-22

1. Fire Prevention for Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG)

Liquefied petroleum gas is flammable, explosive, toxic and asphyxiating. Its specific gravity is heavier than air in the gaseous state and lighter than water in the liquid state. After understanding these basic characteristics of LPG, we should pay attention to the following in daily life:

★ When choosing an LPG supply station, be sure to select one that has passed the acceptance and review by the fire department and holds a fire safety license;

★ Close the valve switch in a timely manner after each use;

★ Do not use gas cylinders that do not meet standards, and it is strictly prohibited to privately disassemble and repair angle valves or pressure reducing valves;

★ Do not refill gas between cylinders illegally, and it is strictly prohibited to use the cylinder in a horizontal position;

★ Do not use any open flame, plug/unplug electrical appliances or switch power supplies when there is a gas leak, and it is strictly prohibited to pour out residual liquid;

★ Do not place gas cylinders near fire sources or heat sources, and it is strictly prohibited to heat cylinders with fire, steam or hot water;

★ Do not leave the scene while using LPG; children, the sick and disabled should not use LPG; it is strictly prohibited to use gas cylinders in bedrooms.

2. Precautions for Smoking

The ignition point of common combustible materials such as cotton, linen, paper and furniture is only about 200℃ to 300℃, while the temperature of a lit cigarette is two to three times higher than the ignition point of these combustibles. Moreover, a cigarette burns continuously for about 10 to 20 minutes, which poses a long fire risk. Therefore, smokers are warned to:

★ Do not smoke while lying in bed or on the sofa;

★ Do not casually throw cigarette butts or matchsticks anywhere regardless of the occasion;

★ Do not smoke while repairing cars or cleaning machine parts;

★ Do not let cigarette ash fall on combustible materials while smoking;

★ Do not flick cigarette ash randomly without considering the occasion or location;

★ Do not tuck unextinguished cigarette butts into clothing pockets in a hurry;

★ Do not casually place lit cigarettes on combustible materials;

★ Do not smoke in places where open flames are strictly prohibited.

3. Fire Prevention in Cooking

Never leave the kitchen unattended when using an oil pan. When frying food, do not fill the pan too full with oil and place it stably. When simmering various meat soups, there must be someone on guard. Do not fill the pot too full with soup; when the soup boils, lower the stove temperature or open the pot lid to prevent floating oil from spilling out of the pot.

4. Precautions for Electricity Use

★ Do not overload electricity use, and use automatic air switches as much as possible;

★ Air-conditioning equipment circuits should adopt independent circuits, and flame-retardant sockets are recommended;

★ Regularly inspect electrical circuits to prevent aging, short circuits, electric leakage and other issues;

★ Do not replace fuses with other wires;

★ Do not randomly pull electrical wires or add electrical equipment without authorization;

★ Do not steal electricity.
