Daily fire prevention tips

2017-09-28

1. Fire Prevention for Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG)

LPG is flammable, explosive, toxic and asphyxiant. In its gaseous state, it is denser than air; in its liquid state, it is lighter than water. After understanding these basic properties of LPG, we should note the following in daily life:

• When choosing an LPG supply station, ensure it has passed acceptance and inspection by fire departments and holds a fire safety license;

• Close the valve switch promptly after each use;

• Do not use gas cylinders that fail to meet standards; it is strictly prohibited to disassemble or repair angle valves or pressure reducing valves without authorization;

• Do not refill gas cylinders in reverse; it is strictly prohibited to use cylinders in a horizontal position;

• Do not use open flames or plug/unplug/switch power supplies when gas leakage occurs; it is strictly prohibited to dump residual liquid;

• Do not place gas cylinders near fire or heat sources; it is strictly prohibited to heat cylinders with fire, steam or hot water;

• Do not leave the scene while using LPG; children and people with disabilities should not use it; it is strictly prohibited to use gas cylinders in bedrooms.

2. Precautions for Smoking

Common combustibles such as cotton, linen, paper and furniture have an ignition point of about 200°C to 300°C, while the temperature of a lit cigarette is two to three times higher than this. Additionally, a single cigarette burns continuously for about 10 to 20 minutes, posing a long fire risk. Therefore, smokers are warned to:

• Do not smoke in bed or on sofas;

• Do not casually throw cigarette butts or matchsticks regardless of the occasion;

• Do not smoke while repairing cars or cleaning machine parts;

• Do not let cigarette ash fall on combustibles while smoking;

• Do not flick cigarette ash randomly without regard to the location;

• Do not tuck unextinguished cigarette butts into clothing pockets in a hurry;

• Do not place lit cigarettes randomly on combustibles;

• Do not smoke in areas where open flames are strictly prohibited.

3. Fire Prevention for Cooking

Never leave the kitchen unattended when using an oil pan. Do not overfill the pan with oil when frying food, and place it securely. Someone should supervise when simmering meat soups. Do not overfill the pot with soup; when the soup boils, lower the stove temperature or open the lid to prevent floating oil from spilling out of the pot.

4. Precautions for Electricity Use:

• Do not use electricity beyond the load capacity; use automatic air switches as much as possible;

• Air conditioning equipment should use an independent circuit, and flame-retardant sockets are recommended;

• Regularly inspect electrical circuits to prevent aging, short circuits, electric leakage and other issues;

• Do not replace fuses with other wires;

• Do not randomly pull wires or add electrical equipment;

• Do not steal electricity.
