Winter is a season with frequent fire incidents. According to statistics, the number of fires and the losses caused in winter each year account for about two-thirds of the annual total. Recently, northern China has entered a period of frequent household fires, and fire departments have reminded the public to take preventive measures. Winter is characterized by dry and windy weather, with high consumption of fire and electricity. The public should enhance their fire safety awareness to prevent fires and protect lives.

1. When using electric heaters for heating, maintain a safe distance from combustible materials nearby, and do not cover or air clothes on electric heaters.

2. Purchase and use qualified electric blankets. Do not fold electric blankets. If an electric blanket fails to heat up or only heats partially, it indicates a malfunction and should be stopped immediately. Turn off the power supply of the electric blanket in case of temporary power outage.

3. Do not smoke in bed, especially after drinking alcohol, before going to bed, or when feeling tired.

4. Strengthen supervision of children; do not lock children at home alone. Educate children not to play with lighters, matches, or candles.

5. Timely clear combustible debris, do not collect waste products and bring them home, and do not pile up debris in evacuation passages to avoid obstructing passage.

6. Pay attention to fire safety during charging, especially for electric vehicles. Do not tamper with electrical wires or connect wires without authorization, and do not conduct overload charging.

7. Pay attention to safe use of fire and gas. Cookers with open flames such as liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) stoves and coal stoves should be used in a well-ventilated environment. If gas leakage is detected, quickly close the gas source valve and open doors and windows for ventilation. Under no circumstances touch electrical switches or use open flames. Promptly notify professional maintenance departments to handle the situation.

8. For precautionary purposes, it is recommended that each household be equipped with small fire extinguishers and other fire-fighting equipment, and all family members should master their usage methods.
